Have you seen our Leader's Congratulatory Letter to the Pope? Formality or Fulfillment of Prophecy?

March 13 was Pope Francis’ fifth year anniversary of being elected as Pope. In those brief five years, he has arguably accomplished more religiously in terms of “healing” long-standing schisms and diplomatically than any other Pope, with an unprecedented highlight of addressing a joint session of the United States Congress. On his fifth-year anniversary, Pope Francis received a letter from an admirer…you guessed it, U.S. President Donald Trump. The two leaders met at the Vatican in May of 2017 where they exchanged symbolic tokens, of which Trump mentions in his short letter. Addressing the Pope as “His Holiness,” after extending his congratulations, Donald Trump expresses the following, “My family and I treasure the memory of our visit to the Vatican last May. I was honored to discuss with you many of the urgent global issues of shared concern to the United States and the Holy See. Our conversation underscored the enduring importance of moral leadership in the international community, and of our continued close cooperation as we work to advance peace and defend human freedom around the world.”[1]

This may seem like a customary congratulatory letter written from one world leader to another; however Trump’s words are highly significant. Trump acknowledges Pope Francis as the international moral leader. Trump is not alone in his estimation of Pope Francis and his role in the global community to address the concerns of the world. The U.N. certainly considers him such: Former U.N. Secretary General “Ban Ki-moon: Pope Francis is a man of moral voice and purpose.”[2]  The current U.N. Secretary General also admires the Pope and looks to him for guidance. The European Union views him likewise and is looking to him for intervention. Consider the following: “Divine intervention! EU leaders will turn to the POPE over plans to revive struggling bloc…One pro-EU think-tank official said that, with Barack Obama gone from the White House, the head of the Catholic Church was the ‘only moral authority’ European politicians had left to follow.”[3]

Back to Donald Trump’s letter to Pope Francis. During Trumps visit to the Vatican last year, you may remember that their meeting was a closed door meeting and little was said regarding their conversation.  However Mr. Trump provides a glimpse into their meeting and states in his letter that he “was honored to discuss with you many of the urgent global issues of shared concern to the United States and the Holy See. Our conversation underscored the enduring importance of moral leadership in the international community, and of our continued close cooperation as we work to advance peace and defend human freedom around the world.”[4] Mr. Trump highlights the close cooperation between the United States and the Vatican to advance “peace and defend human freedom.” This is very startling that in 2018, the United States is working in close partnership with Popery to advance “human freedom” when this is the very power that has historically enslaved men by restricting liberty of conscience, which necessitated the establishment of the United States.  This is the same power that again will do the same according to Revelation 13:15-17. “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

The phrase “working to defend peace and human freedom” cannot be overlooked. This is what Mr. Trump says that the United States and Popery are uniting to do.  What does Popery mean by defending human freedom? Let us not conjecture; let us allow the Pope himself to enlighten us.  Pope Francis has stated that freedom of expression has limitations[5] and that religion should not be confined to personal conscience. This is what his predecessor had to say about defending human freedom. “In 2012, Pope Benedict said that in defending Sunday as a day of rest, one ‘defends human freedom. Sunday is the day of the Lord and of men and women, a day in which everyone must be able to be free, free for the family and free for God. In defending Sunday we defend human freedom!’ he said.”[6]  For the critic who says, that Pope Benedict’s statements and sentiments cannot be attributed to Pope Francis, it must be understood that Pope Francis is a leading voice in promoting the “free Sunday” movement not only in Poland that resulted in the Sunday shopping ban but for other countries as well.[7],[8]

Again, Mr. Trump wrote about America and Popery’s  close cooperation in working to defend human freedom around the world—the Sunday Law worldwide. What a contradiction, professing to defend human freedom by enforcing Sunday as a mandatory day of rest and worship which is a gross restriction of religious freedom.

Given the history of Popery, it is no surprise that she would equate human freedom to forcing the conscience to observe a religious Holiday of her choosing, but for America to work alongside Popery in doing so is hard to fathom for those who are not knowledgeable  of Bible Prophecy. Revelation 13:11-17 tells us exactly that this close partnership between America and the Vatican will result in the restriction of liberty of conscience and the enforcement of the Mark of the Beast (mandatory Sunday observance).

“Heretofore those who presented the truths of the third angel's message have often been regarded as mere alarmists. Their predictions that religious intolerance would gain control in the United States, that church and state would unite to persecute those who keep the commandments of God, have been pronounced groundless and absurd. It has been confidently declared that this land could never become other than what it has been--the defender of religious freedom. But as the question of enforcing Sunday observance is widely agitated, the event so long doubted and disbelieved is seen to be approaching, and the third message will produce an effect which it could not have had before.”[9] Now is the time for the people of God to arouse and proclaim the Third Angels’ Message with urgency so that men and women can be awakened and warned.
