Hyland’s Homeopathic False Claims Lawsuit

April 12, 2017

A class action suit has been filed against Hylands Inc. over allegations that it made false and misleading statements as it relates to the effectiveness of certain homeopathic products for children.

The claims argue that the products are not do not do what they claim and that Hyland’s product is nothing but , “highly diluted concentrations of the ingredients listed as active ingredients.” [1]

“Hyland’s denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle the homeopathic products class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.” [1]

The Hyland’s products named in the homeopathic products settlement include:

  • Cold ‘n Cough 4 Kids

  • Cough Syrup with 100% Natural Honey

  • Sniffles ‘n Sneezes 4 Kids

  • Cold Relief Strips 4 Kids with Zinc

  • Nighttime Cold ‘n Cough 4 Kids

  • Complete Flu Care 4 Kids

  • Baby Teething Gel

  • Baby Cough Syrup

  • Baby Gas Drops

  • Baby Infant Earache Drops

  • Baby Nighttime Tiny Cold Syrup

This is not the first time that Hyland has been in the news. Late last year, Hyland’s, “manufacturers of the gels and tablets failed to warn parents of the increased risks of their children experiencing seizures, difficulty breathing, and excessive sleepiness as a result of using the products.” [3]

“The FDA has issued a warning stating that the homeopathic teething products produced by Hyland's & CVS can possibly cause seizures, breathing issues, fatigue, muscle weakness, and urinary problems. The FDA is even investigating a potential link to numerous infant deaths.” [3]

With the increase of health conscious individuals, the “homeopathic” business has begun to boom. We cannot trust our lives and the lives of our loved ones to those who have no regard for true health and its principles.

In addition, homeopathic medicines may not be necessarily plant-based. “The majority of homeopathic remedies are vegan in origin, but there are exceptions. Also, a remedy may be vegan in origin, but prepared with lactose (sugar of milk) which is not vegan.” In these remedies animal fur, feathers, decomposed spiders and milk is used in its production. [5]

“The use of natural remedies requires an amount of care and effort that many are not willing to give. Nature's process of healing and upbuilding is gradual, and to the impatient it seems slow. The surrender of hurtful indulgences requires sacrifice. But in the end it will be found that nature, untrammeled, does her work wisely and well.

Too little attention is generally given to the preservation of health. It is far better to prevent disease than to know how to treat it when contracted. It is the duty of every person, for his own sake, and for the sake of humanity, to inform himself in regard to the laws of life and conscientiously to obey them. All need to become acquainted with that most wonderful of all organisms, the human body. They should understand the functions of the various organs and the dependence of one upon another for the healthy action of all. They should study the influence of the mind upon the body, and of the body upon the mind, and the laws by which they are governed.” [4]
