At a recent meeting with President Trump, Secretary of Education, Betty Devos and Vice President Mike Pence; over 60 leaders of HBCU’s met to find common ground concerning the funding of Historically Black Colleges. Among the leaders was Oakwood University’s, Mr. Leslie Pollard. On the surface, this seems to be an exciting opportunity however, one startling statement was made during this meeting that confirmed the words of Christ spoken through his messenger, Ellen White, “…it is inconsistent for the Church to receive from the State pecuniary gifts, favors, or exemptions, on religious grounds…”
Vice President Pence stated, after a seemingly successful meeting of executive orders put in place to financially support HBCU’s , “You deserve far more credit than you get, and know that beginning today, this administration is committed to making sure that our historically black colleges and universities get the credit and the attention they deserve,” Mr. Pence told them. “Get ready for a great and energetic partnership in the days ahead.” Unfortunately, as with the majority of the other Seventh-day Adventist institutions , Oakwood University has left the blueprint of being a self-sustaining institution, and has become dependent, receiving government funding and accreditation as well as becoming a servant to the lender; thus having to abide by their governmental policies and requirements, which are in direct opposition to the counsel of the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy.
Although no biblical truth was presented at such a unique and opportune time, Mr. Pollard seemed obliviously pleased and hopeful of this meeting. In a statement Mr. Pollard confirmed, “On February 6, 2017, I had an important conversation with our UNCF Senior Vice-President for Public Policy & Government Affairs, Mrs. Cheryl Smith, regarding the President's planned agenda for Higher Education. On February 3, President Donald Trump's Department of Education representatives extended an invitation to the Presidents of HBCUs to attend a meeting at the White House on February 27, and to meet with Speaker Paul Ryan and Congressional Representatives on February 28. The purpose of the meeting is to confirm a national agenda for assisting HBCU's continue and strengthen their contribution to the nation's graduation rates. While only 3% of institutions of higher education in America, HBCUs graduate annually 21% of all African Americans receiving Bachelors Degrees. The Trump White House has informed us that they are working on a new and stronger Executive Order on HBCUs. The UNCF Government Affairs Office, along with HBCU partner organizations, provided input to White House staff on the top priorities for a new HBCU Executive Order, including a request to increase Pell grant funding. I will be attending the meetings in Washington and will keep you informed of any and all developments affecting our Oakwood mission. And by all means, please say a special prayer for the February 27 and 28 meetings.”
What a unique opportunity Mr. Pollard had to not only present President Trump with a gift bag full of materials and books containing the wonderful prophetic truths of the Three Angels’ Messages, but also to request a private meeting with him and unfold to him the beautiful advent message in connection with the plan of salvation and current events. However, due to the nature of the meetings, Mr. Pollard was there for an altogether alternate purpose, one antithetical to the Third Angels’ Message. His stance in solidarity and unity with worldly institutions requesting government funding, from the very government that will, according to Bible prophecy, prohibit, persecute and marginalize anyone who is opposed to worshiping the Beast, thus rejecting the mark.
Let us pray for the Seventh-day Adventists who are afforded the opportunity of coming in contact with men in high positions, will not, like Hezekiah when brought into contact with ambassadors from Babylon, waste the opportunity and speak only of material assets, but rather boldly and lovingly share the wonderful messages of the Three Angels. May all conscientious Seventh-day Adventists look for ways in which they may share the present-truth with all whom they come in contact; and if faithful in the least, God may open doors for such persons to reach the men in higher offices.
