December 28, 2016

"And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt."  Leviticus 2:13 KJV

One of the first places we find Salt referenced in the Bible is in Leviticus 2:13

  • God commanded the people of Israel that every meat offering should be seasoned with salt--

  • The reason every offering was to be offered with salt is because salt is used as a preservative.

What is salt?

Salt is a white crystalline substance that gives seawater its characteristic taste. It is produced by evaporation and crystallization from water impregnated with saline particles. It is also found native in the earth.

How does salt preserve?

Water absorption...

Salt absorbs water from foods, making the environment too dry to support harmful mold or bacteria.

  • Salt also protects food from mold, and spoiling.

Not only food

Just as in Leviticus, our bodies are also “living sacrifices.”

  • Therefore our bodies, and lives are preserved by this salt...

What is this salt biblically?

  • READ: Colossians 4:6.

  • This salt, which preserves us is the Grace of God.

  • The grace of God that brings salvation unto all men. - Titus 2:11-12

Salt Counteracts Bitterness

“And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.” 2 Kings 2:21 KJV

We see in 2 Kings 2 Elisha used salt to heal the bitter waters

  • sodium can actually inhibit bitterness at the receptor site by interfering with the signal being transferred up to the brain.

  • Before we perceive the bitterness, the sodium is starting to inhibit it.

  • If you've got a food product that has bitterness to it such as brussel sprouts, arugula, and kale. Add salt.

Christians Likened unto Salt

  • Christ is speaking to the disciples on the Mount of Blessings where He gave His first sermon.

  • Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?...”Matthew 5:13

What Does it Mean To Be The Salt of The Earth?

“The saving salt, the savor of the Christian, is the love of Jesus in the heart, the righteousness of Christ pervading the soul. If the professor of religion would keep the saving efficacy of his faith, he must ever keep the righteousness of Christ before him, and have the glory of God for his rearward. Then the power of Christ will be revealed in life and character.” – {Ye Shall Receive Power 163.2}

What does Jesus have to say about salt?

“Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? ....

  • Naturally, “Salt is Good”

  • Although there is refined salt that is detrimental to health, there are many other kinds of salt with various health benefits.

We must come close to those whom we desire to benefit.” —Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, 36.
