Christ in his matchless, incomprehensible love for His people is using every means to awaken them to the times in which they are living, and over and over again He allows secular sources to use the very words of scripture to draw man’s attention to the fast-fulfilling prophecies. “The perils of the last days are upon us… Let not the solemn scenes which prophecy has revealed be left untouched. If our people were half awake, if they realized the nearness of the events portrayed in the Revelation, a reformation would be wrought in our churches, and many more would believe the message.”1
One such scripture that has been rapidly fulfilling and that God is trying to draw our attention to is Daniel 11:40; and for that very reason Satan has caused some of the few who are studying prophecy to place a misinterpretation upon this scripture, wrongly attributing the identity of the King of the North, and thus drawing a wrong conclusion regarding the succeeding verses to the end of the chapter. Daniel 11 is a chapter that we must pay special attention to considering that “the prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place.”2
“And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over” Daniel 11:40. The first key to understanding the identity of both the king of the north and the king of the south is the phrase “the time of the end.” The Bible is clear that the time of the end is 1798, when the Papal power lost its dominion (see Daniel 11:33-36; Daniel 12:4-9 and Revelation 12:14 and 6).
“This is especially true of the book of Daniel. But that part of his prophecy which related to the last days, Daniel was bidden to close up and seal ‘to the time of the end.’ Not till we reach this time could a message concerning the judgment be proclaimed, based on the fulfillment of these prophecies. But at the time of the end, says the prophet, ‘many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased’ Daniel 12:4.” The apostle Paul warned the church not to look for the coming of Christ in his day. ‘That day shall not come,’ he says, ‘except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed.’ 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Not till after the great apostasy, and the long period of the reign of the ‘man of sin,’ can we look for the advent of our Lord. The ‘man of sin,’ which is also styled ‘the mystery of iniquity,’ ‘the son of perdition,’ and ‘that wicked,’ represents the papacy, which, as foretold in prophecy, was to maintain its supremacy for 1260 years. This period ended in 1798.”3
“The 1260 years of papal supremacy began in A.D. 538, and would therefore terminate in 1798. At that time a French army entered Rome and made the pope a prisoner, and he died in exile.”4
In 1798, the power that passed off the scene, or was violently forced off the scene, was Roman Catholicism; and the power that rose to ascendancy was France, or more precisely, the characteristics that came out of France, legalized atheism and legalized immorality (see also Revelation 11:7 and 8), also termed communism, of which Karl Marx stated “Communism begins where atheism begins.” Therefore the king of the north represents Roman Catholicism while the king of the south represents legalized atheism and immorality and the nations that have done so.
Verse 40 of Daniel 11 states that the king of the north will come against the king of the south as a whirlwind; and just as surely as the United States passed its national sodomy law (NSL) in June of 2015, which legalizes gay unions, not even three full months later, Pope Francis visited the United States to spread his message before a joint session of congress, the United Nations and the world Meeting of Families. A whirlwind is characterized by rapidity and devastation. And several major media outlets noted the speed with which Pope Francis was moving and used the word “whirlwind” to describe the visit and the mission of Pope Francis. Consider the following headlines and phrases: “Pope Francis’ First Whirlwind Day In U.S. Focused On Climate Change, Reconciliation;”5 “East Coast Prepares for whirlwind visit from Pope Francis;”6 “A Whirlwind Papal Journey Concludes;”7 “Whirlwind trip: Pope Francis Back in Rome;”8 and “Pope Francis Came, Saw, and Conquered During His U.S. Visit.”9 The last headline is very interesting considering that one of the chief characteristics of a leopard, another symbol representing Roman Catholicism (Revelation 13:1-10), is its keen focus and ability to observe its prey (Hosea 13:7); and just when it is in the position to attack, when it is sure of its prey, it strikes, and brings its victims under its dominion.
It must be recalled that just prior to his U.S. visit, Pope Francis visited Cuba, a communist country which was also described by the media as a whirlwind. From the Daily Mail, “Pope Francis ends his whirlwind Cuba tour by blessing an entire city as the U.S. now prepares for his arrival with unprecedented security.”10 CBS News put it this way, “In a whirlwind three-day visit to Cuba, the pope will visit three cities, celebrate two masses and meet with youth, families, and clergy.”11 Having met and gained a stronger footing with other atheistic and immoral countries, Pope Francis now has his eyes set on China, another emerging world power. Under the headline, “Pope Francis targets China in year of mercy,” the following can be read: “Agreement on issue of Vatican’s right to appoint bishops in China would be biggest diplomatic feat of Francis’s papacy… If Pope Francis has his way, a deal to bridge what many believe is an insurmountable divide between the Roman Catholic Church and the communist Chinese government could be announced within the next 30 days…Any agreement that solves the thorniest issue between the two sides – the Vatican’s right to appoint its own bishops in China – would represent the most consequential diplomatic feat of the Francis’s papacy.”12
It is clear that we are in the closing moments of earth’s history and the Papacy has done its work of dispatching its army, the Jesuits, into the various countries through the educational system, the political arena, and various other systems of influence, and wherever Jesuits go, there follows a revival a Popery and persecution for those opposed. In the same chapter of Testimonies for the Church, Volume 9, titled “The Coming King” where the well—known statement “final movements will be rapid ones” appears, is also the statement “the prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place.” If the events now taking place and God’s efforts to awaken His people, do not arouse us from slumber, I am not sure that anything will.
