The Bible characterizes the system of Roman Catholicism in many ways; however, whenever it is depicted in scripture it is associated with blasphemy and speaking great words against the Most High. In Revelation 13:1, it is described as a leopard having the names of blasphemy written upon his horns; and again in verse six it is said of the beast “And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.” Another symbol of this same system is brought to view in Revelation 17:1-6. “…Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.” Again, this apostate system is shown being full of blasphemy and abominations.
The Roman Catholic institution with its hierarchy of leadership and successions are all a part of this blasphemy of God, and thus not only does the entire system represent the anti-Christ but also every Pope, priest and prelate from the first to the present. Many believe that Pope Francis has somehow broken the mold of the age-long traditions and superstitions that have ever distinguished Roman Catholicism, but this is not the case; he is only presenting a different guise to better accomplish the ends of the Jesuits and Roman Catholicism as a whole. One thing that cannot be argued is that he is doing a very fine acting job in portraying himself as a progressive, non-traditionalist who has so much compassion for the unfortunate and humanity in general. “And let it be remembered, it is the boast of Rome that she never changes… Have these persons forgotten the claim of infallibility put forth for eight hundred years by this haughty power? So far from being relinquished, this claim was affirmed in the nineteenth century with greater positiveness than ever before… The papal church will never relinquish her claim to infallibility. All that she has done in her persecution of those who reject her dogmas she holds to be right; and would she not repeat the same acts, should the opportunity be presented? Let the restraints now imposed by secular governments be removed and Rome be reinstated in her former power, and there would speedily be a revival of her tyranny and persecution.”1
It should come as no surprise then that Pope Francis, claiming to be the Vicar of Christ, like all previous Popes, has continued to make blasphemous statements and perform blasphemous acts. He has essentially said that keeping God’s commandments makes the Holy Spirit sad and that grace supersedes keeping of the law. “Christians can fall prey to the enchantments of ideology that adhere to rigid requirements yet ignore and sadden the Holy Spirit, Pope Francis said. While following doctrine is important, those who focus solely on its strict observance can ‘reduce the Spirit and the Son to a law,’ the pope the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae…The second attitude, he continued, is to ‘sadden the Holy Spirit’ when Christians allow their lives to be led by the ‘theology of the law’ rather than ‘the freedom of the spirit.’”2
Of course the pontiff would make such a statement considering that the papal system has always had a satanic disdain for God’s law, the ten commandments, and has put in its place a law of its own devising (Daniel 7:25). The Roman Catholic Church has assumed the authority to completely expunge the second commandment, supposedly transfer the solemnity of the seventh-day Sabbath to the first day of the week, and to preserve the number, it has divided the tenth into two separate commandments. It is quite evident that the “spirit” Pope Francis is referring to is an unclean, foul spirit (Revelation 18:2) and not the Spirit of Christ.
Furthermore, Pope Francis in the same week gave his definition of what constitutes sin. But since the Roman Catholic Church has invented its own set of commandments, it should be able to determine what sin is and the violation of the law of its creating, right? God’s Word plainly declares that “sin is the transgression against of the law” (1 John 3:4), but according to Pope Francis, “Proselytism is a great sin against ecumenism… You should never practice proselytism…Friendship, walk together, pray for one another, do works of mercy together. This is ecumenism. We should never condemn our brothers and sisters.”3 This is not the first time however that Pope Francis has stated what he and the Roman Catholic Church believe to be sin. He has called global warming and neglect of the environment a sin as well as fundamentalism.
Back to his calling proselytism or evangelism a sin, Pope Francis’ entire Papacy has been devoted to ecumenism and he has been coined as the embodiment of Vatican II, a council dedicated solely to ecumenism and the bringing back of denominations to Roman Catholicism. With the fall season now in full-bloom, Pope Francis has begun his “ecumenical autumn,” just as the headline of the Jesuit magazine America puts it: “Ecumenical Autumn: Pope’s Calendar Filled with Dialogue Opportunities.”4
Since evangelism is a sin against ecumenism, according to Pope Francis, we can expect measures to be enacted worldwide prohibiting evangelism, which is already a reality in Russia and other countries around the world. Furthermore, this means that any denomination and/or person not in favor of the ecumenical unity based upon common points of doctrine will be looked upon as a discordant element, divisive, a radical, an extremist, a fundamentalist, one to be shunned and criminalized, especially when the season comes for the unified churches to dictate to the state to enforce their decrees and sustain their institutions. Such a unity is a sinful confederation based upon error; and the people of God are to utterly reject this unity and cling to the Bible and the Bible only as did the Protestant Reformers and be just as aggressive in warning individuals against joining with such a movement.
