GMO-What's the BIG DEAL?!

April 25, 2016

genetically modified organism (GMO) , Wikipedia defines best, "... is any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques (i.e., a genetically engineered organism). GMOs are the source of medicines and genetically modified foods and are widely used in scientific research and to produce other goods." (Wikipedia, 2016) In short, GMO is a food or drug that has undergone the process of having its natural properties stripped and altered using the DNA from another organism, bacterium, plant, virus and animal.

This is an unethical process that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as being safe. Here's an official statement from the FDA posted on their website, " FDA regulates the safety of food for humans and animals, including foods produced from genetically engineered (GE) plants. Foods from GE plants must meet the same food safety requirements as foods derived from traditionally bred plants. Read more at Consumer Info About Food From Genetically Engineered Plants."  (FDA, 2016)

Despite the FDA'S argument of this being a safe process, how can this standard even be possible? How do you alter a food's properties (the same properties that made it what it is), then deem it safe by meeting the same requirements as Non-GMO foods? How do you make an apple an orange by altering the properties of the apple to that of  an orange, then say that it now meets the same requirements as an unaltered apple, and can still be labeled an apple?

When God created the plants, fruits and herbs for our consumption he stated, "...and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine." Ezekiel 47:12. Considering that God provided this food for meat and for medicine, denotes that its properties were perfect to accomplish just that! The process of altering these properties to anything other than what God purposed it for, as done in the GMO process, warrants the food unsafe, unhealthy, unworthy to be called food and is unfit for human consumption.

Now, if the food is being altered, then our bodies are also being altered after its kind. Have you noticed lately the rise in cancer cases worldwide, especially in America? This is mainly due to the fact that many other countries ban GMO products from their territories. The multimillion dollar business of cancer research and cure is not a mysterious isolated issue that has no true resolution. For obvious reasons, the cause is known but the proper knowledge is withheld from individuals to prevent this disease.

You must be asking yourself, "Am I eating GMO foods?" The truth is, unlike Monsanto, the leader in GMO farming, farmers typically take pride in their work and the products that they offer for people to eat. Because of this, they will inform you of the type of foods you are consuming, by labeling their foods. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. This is done by the labeling of their packages. To ensure that you are purchasing the best quality foods with its original properties, look for this label on your food packaging.
