Oil pulling with Coconut Oil

April 3, 2016

Always study and teach the use of the simplest remedies, and the special blessing of the Lord may be expected to follow the use of these means which are within the reach of the common people.--Letter 100, 1903.  {2SM 298.6}.

Coconut Oil is an oil that has many uses. Coconut oil can be used as a body moisturizer, deodorant, face wash, diaper rashes, dry skin, stretch marks and as an insect repellent. Coconut oil is considered a beauty oil for its skin and hair benefits, but did you know that coconut oil is also good for oral health? Oil pulling is an age old procedure that uses coconut oil a natural oral detoxifier to cleanse and detoxify the teeth and gums while whitening!

The way to oil pull is to simply place 1-2 tablespoons of food grade coconut oil in your mouth and hold it there swishing it around for approximately 10-20 minutes. When I oil pull, I set a timer and occupy myself doing something else so that the time does not seem so long. Although I love coconut oil!, setting a timer and occupying yourself with another activity is especially helpful for those who do not like the taste of coconut oil.

During the oil pulling, the oil acts as an antiseptic and pulls all of the bacteria out of your mouth. You will feel the oil getting thicker as it is being mixed with the saliva and will be a creamy white color when it is spat out. DO NOT pull for over 20 minutes, as the toxins and bacteria may reabsorb, thus defeating the purpose. DO NOT swallow the oil after the pulling. DO NOT spit the oil into the sink, rather into the toilet (if you choose to spit in the sink, be sure to run water simultaneously and for at least two minutes after spitting) this is still an oil and can clog the drains. Rinse with warm water and brush as regular.

Oil pulling also helps:

  • Cure tooth decay

  • Kill bad breath

  • Heals bleeding gums

  • Prevent heart disease

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Whiten teeth

  • Soothe throat dryness

  • Prevent cavities

  • Heal cracked lips

  • Boost Immune System

  • Improve acne

  • Strengthen gums and jaw
